Beginning therapy can feel like a significant step, whether this is your first experience of counselling or you have attended therapy before. People seek therapy for many reasons, including anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, grief, life transitions or simply a sense that something no longer feels manageable alone.

The first session provides an opportunity for us to explore what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from the process. It is also a chance for you to ask any questions you may have and to get a sense of whether working together feels right for you. There is no expectation to share everything at once; therapy develops over time and at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Each person's experiences and circumstances are unique. Some people come to counselling with a specific issue they would like support with, while others are looking to better understand themselves, their relationships or recurring patterns in their lives. Together, we can identify what feels most important and consider how therapy may best support your emotional wellbeing and personal goals
Therapy can be short-term or longer-term depending on your needs, circumstances and what you hope to achieve. Some people find a focused number of sessions helpful when working through a particular difficulty, while others benefit from longer-term therapy that allows for deeper exploration and understanding. We can discuss this together and review your needs as our work progresses.
Therapy is a collaborative process. From time to time, we can reflect on how the work is developing, whether your goals have changed and what feels most helpful for you moving forward. These reviews provide an opportunity to ensure that the therapy continues to meet your needs.
Sessions provide a confidential and consistent space where you can bring whatever feels important to you. The aim is not to provide advice or quick solutions, but to support you in developing greater self-awareness, understanding and choice. Through therapy, many people find themselves better able to navigate life's challenges, strengthen relationships and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how therapy works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to therapy, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
All enquiries are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential.
